Inspections for overhead cranes and hoists

Compliance inspections

Regularly scheduled crane inspections can save companies great expense by verifying compliance with local regulations and highlighting safety and production issues. Compliance inspections are designed to satisfy regulatory requirements established by governmental authorities, such as the CSA.

Having an annual compliance inspection does not make you compliant. Regulations and industry best practices require much more. Regulations often require preventive maintenance, repairs to address deficiencies, lifetime inspections, general overhauls, engineering evaluations and load tests. Konecranes offers both compliance and preventive maintenance inspections. A Konecranes trained and qualified inspector will perform the inspection and give recommendations for repair, replacement or adjustment.

We provide an inspection report that fulfills local statutory requirements. If you have a Konecranes service program you have access to our customer portal yourKONECRANES.com where you can view and download inspection documents at any time.

Types of inspections offered by Konecranes

CSA Initial Inspection

Inspects equipment for deficiencies and deviations as defined in the criteria set forth in the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Standards Association CSA-B167 Standard. An initial inspection is typically required before a new crane is taken into use. This inspection may also be needed if a crane is taken into use after being out of operation for a long period of time, moved to another location, or if there has been a major modification in crane structure or components.

CSA Periodic Compliance Inspection

Inspects equipment for deficiencies and deviations as defined in accordance with the criteria set forth in the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Standards Association CSA - B167 Standard. The inspection interval is defined in CSA B-167 Standard. Frequency is determined taking into account crane usage and operating environment.

CSA Frequent Compliance Inspection

Inspects equipment for deficiencies and deviations as defined in the criteria set forth in the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Standards Association CSA-B167 Standard. The inspection interval is defined in CSA-B167 Standard. Frequency is determined taking into taking into account crane usage and operating environment.

CSA Inspection for Cranes not in Regular Use over One Year

Inspect equipment for deficiencies and deviations as defined in the criteria set forth in the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Standards Association CSA-B167 Standard. The inspection interval is defined in CSA-B167 Standard. Frequency is taking into account crane usage and operating environment.

CSA Inspection for Cranes not in Regular Use less than One Year

Inspects equipment for deficiencies and deviations as defined in the criteria set forth in the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Standards Association CSA - B167 Standard. The inspection interval is defined in CSA B-167 Standard. Frequency is determined taking into account crane usage and operating environment.

Load test

Verifies that equipment is capable of lifting and moving the rated load through all designed motions. The load test has also been designed to meet local statutory requirements for load testing and the frequency of this test should not exceed 12 months. An observer from the Mechanical Engineer Chamber or accredited third party company will attend the Load Test, and if the test is successful, the required certificate will be granted.

DWP calculation

An estimate of the accumulated duty of a crane and assessment of its remaining life.

Slings and Accessories Inspection

Inspects non-maintainable load lifting attachments and accessories that are attached to the crane hook during operation. The inspection identifies deficiencies and deviations from local statutory safety and health regulations and is performed by trained and qualified service personnel. The inspection service utilizes radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to record load lifting attachment inspection data and a smartphone app to help quickly and reliably identify attachments.

Preventive maintenance inspections

Preventive maintenance inspections help fulfill local regulatory requirements for maintenance. Our preventive maintenance inspections are performed by Konecranes trained technicians, utilizing our proprietary MAINMAN maintenance software and procedures.

Our MAINMAN Assessment is the foundation of the CARE Preventive/Predictive Maintenance program. It is a preventive maintenance inspection that provides a baseline for planning, tracking, reporting and maintenance consultation with our customers.

Our consultative approach is supported by our unique MAINMAN technology, proprietary Risk and Recommendation Method and global maintenance expertise. This assessment is unique in the overhead crane industry and is designed to provide an in-depth picture of the condition of your equipment, while simultaneously fulfilling the requirements of the periodic compliance inspection.

The preventive maintenance inspection included in MAINMAN Assessment is the most complete inspection that Konecranes offers. MAINMAN Assessment records detailed preventive maintenance opportunities and actions.
